Gouldsboro is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) straddling Lehigh Township in Wayne County and Coolbaugh Township in Monroe County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Nestled in the northern Pocono Mountains at an elevation of approximately 1,900 feet, it covers just over 3 square miles and is accessible via Route 507 and nearby Interstate 380. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 750 residents. Originally known as Sand Cut, the village was renamed Gouldsboro in 1892 after financier Jay Gould (1836–1892), a New York native who owned significant railroad interests, including the Erie-Lackawanna line that runs parallel to the area's eastern boundary, and co-owned a leather tannery at nearby Thornhurst. From around 1900 to 1936, the region thrived on an ice industry, with Gouldsboro Lake and adjacent Tobyhanna Lake supplying up to 150 railroad boxcar loads of ice daily during peak summer demand for refrigeration in East Coast cities and even Florida hospitals. The arrival of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad in the mid-19th century spurred development, including the restored Gouldsboro Train Station, which now hosts seasonal excursions from Steamtown National Historic Site and features historical reenactments in Victorian attire.
